Locale On Property
Inside the home, black widows typically hide in sheltered, dimly lit locations such as garages, dark corners, basements, closets and cluttered areas.
Description
Recognizable due to the red hourglass-shaped marking on the underside of the globular abdomen, black widows are jet black in colour.
Concerns
Black widow spiders are not aggressive to humans, and only bite when threatened, but their venom is a neurotoxin. This affects the nervous system, causing symptoms, such as, abdominal and chest pain, difficulty breathing, nausea, chills, swelling, sweating, weakness and fever.
